1. History of Education Department

Prof. Bijoy Krishna Bhattacharyya was an academic visionary who felt  the need of the society was to gain knowledge. Moreover, he felt the need of women  education . The outcome of his progressive thought led to the introduction of the subject ,”Education “ as a full – fledged Honours faculty in the year 1965 -66.The department started its  journey from August, 1966 with Prof. Sabita GuhaMazumdar , Gita Dutta and  Purnima Mukherjee as teaching faculty . After Dr Sabita Guha Mazumdar’s retirement ,  Dr. Nargis Sattar joined the department as a full-time teaching faculty. She  was followed by  Prof. Bulbul Ghosh  who joined college in the year 1983 and in the year 1999 Dr. Maksuda Khatun joined college in the post of Prof. Purnima Mukherjee.

The University results are encouraging every year. Failure rate is almost insignificant. We always work together with the motto ‘work today for better tomorrow’.

2. Mission

Our mission is to provide education not only to acquire knowledge but also to inculcate a sound philosophy for holistic living. We also want to make the classes truly interactive and student-centric to the utmost extent possible.

The number of students in the class should be  manageable on the one hand and  regularity of attendance is to be made mandatory  on the other hand to make a proper judgement of the students accomplishment in teaching - learning situation.

Students should be encouraged for self evaluation and  personality development and proper guidance should be provided so that the students  strive towards perfection and competence.

The Department of Education strives to provide excellent teaching and learning environment with its focus on continuing education.

3. Vision

Our vision is to make learning a continuous process and an enjoyable experience. Thedepartment, with its limited autonomy, cannot drastically turn things around, but it can experiment with more student – centric learning.

Our aim is to  impart quality education for Education of rural and economically weaker students.

We try to create interest among students  to opt for Education as a major subject in higher education thus making  the students creative and research oriented which can help raise the standard of our students to global levels and make them employable by  providing  a platform to the students to exhibit  their talents and creativity.
