About the Department

  1. History of Dept:- The Honours and General Course of Political science started from June 1950
  1. Mission & Vision:- The very discipline of Political Science aims to respond to all contemporary events surrounding us and to contextualize those in historical perspective with a suitable response for future. The department thus tries to equip its students to emerge as self sufficient, sensible and responsible citizens in the context of given curriculum of the University and amalgamating those with several co-curricular and extra-curricular activities
  1. Achievements:- The department has both collective and individual achievements to its credit. From academic point of view the students have laudable performance in the University examinations. A number of them have received first class marks as well in different academic years. In the domain of sports, debate and cultural activities also they have fared well by gaining rewards from both the college and outside agencies. The department in assistance with the funds from UGC and the Govt. Of West Bengal have organized some national and local Conferences and Seminars involving the members from academic fraternity of the different parts of the state. For the students Youth Parliament , Moot Court and Extempore have been organized with student members from different colleges. Awards , in the form of prize, certificate and cash rewards are also offered to the successful students. The Faculty Members also are actively involved in upgrading their academic pursuit regularly. They participate regularly in different seminars, workshops and conferences. A number of them are involved in regular publications at local, national and international journals and books. A member of the department availed the UGC FIP scheme to complete her doctoral research. Another two members have also availed and completed UGC Minor Research Projects.

  1. Departmental Infrastructure:- Two departmental rooms are there with computer and projector facility in one. The department also has a departmental library for the students.
  1. Future Plan:- A departmental publication of scholarly articles is going to appear soon. The annual wall magazine of the students will be systematized more. Extension Lectures and Career Counselling are also on the cards.
